The Orenberg Rituals

The Orenberg consists of a higher and a lower section. About a million years ago, the Meuse River deposited gravel, sand, and clay here.

As calcareous water seeped through the sand and clay, present between the gravel, a natural "concrete" formed after hardening: the Orenberg 'conglomerate'

Between 1879 and 1957, the area served as a gravel quarry.

Several large boulders lie on the lower grassy area. These special stones show traces of natural forces over millions of years.

The shapes and textures in the rock formation tell a story of the primal forces that sculpted this landscape and make it a place where time becomes almost tangible.

In the local dialect the 'Orenberg' is called 'Hoèrebèrg'. 'Hoère' is local dialect for horn. Farmers from Cadier en Keer used to keep cattle here, which may explain the name.

The municipal archives of Cadier en Keer from 1879, mention that hard boulders were found in the gravel quarry near the 'Hoèrebèrg', which had to be removed. This w as unsuccessful, neither then nor later. The boulders seemed unwilling to move and remained in place.

Around 1975 they were designated a geological monument due to their rarity.

No other conglomerate rock, formed on site, has been found in the Netherlands.

Winter Solstice

When the longest night of the year approaches and the daylight wanes in the Northern Hemisphere, it is time to lighten up fire, create warmth and seek for self-reflection.

Symbols and rituals serve as gateways to a deeper connection with nature. They act as talismans that blur the boundaries between the human and the natural world.

Symbols, such as a sunset or a tree, carry meanings that transcend to a deeper understanding of nature.

Rituals, whether a simple walk in the woods or celebrating seasonal changes, create ceremonial ties to the cycles of nature.

In embracing these symbols and performing rituals, people find a rhythm that resonates with the earth itself, creating a sense of unity.

In this way, symbols and rituals become not only external expressions, but also inner compasses that point the way to a deeper harmony with nature.
